Battery energy storage deployment in ERCOT has reached a significant milestone: 10 GW of commercially operational capacity, by rated power.
Following a relatively slow first quarter of Q1 2025, completion of BESS projects in ERCOT drastically ramped up in Q2. Twenty new projects - totaling 1.7 GW by nameplate capacity - were commissioned.
Not only did this bring total installed capacity by rated power to 10 GW - making ERCOT well positioned to hit 14 GW by 2026 - but installed energy capacity also broached the milestone of 15 GWh. Following Q2, 15.4 GWh of BESS projects have received approval to begin commercial operations.
This report contains information regarding:
- everything you need to know regarding the 20 newly commissioned batteries in ERCOT, including who developed them, where they’re located, and what their duration is,
- how long it’s taking new projects to progress through the interconnection queue, and whether the timeline is getting longer or shorter,
- and what share of the current queue of battery projects is likely to reach commercial operations over the next few years.
