ERCOT Battery Energy Storage Buildout Report: 14 GW by 2026

In the first four months of 2024, the rated power of commercially operational battery energy storage systems in ERCOT grew by 955 MW. That means the total installed rated power of batteries in ERCOT is 4.6 GW (as of the end of April).

This is 22x higher than three years ago. And total installed rated power has doubled in the past twelve months alone.

Which new battery energy storage systems came online in ERCOT between January and April?

In April alone, 246 MW of new rated power was commissioned - from just two sites:

  • Cypress Creek Renewables’ Zier Storage system (40 MW; two-hour duration).
  • ENGIE’s Libra BESS asset (206 MW; one-hour duration) - the largest battery energy storage site to come online in ERCOT to date.
