Availability of batteries in Great Britain 2025: Revenues hinge on more than just being online

In Great Britain, battery availability is high. 95% of batteries are available in any half-hour (weighted by rated power). But “online” doesn’t always mean “fully usable.” On average, only 76% of rated power is available for export capacity and 78% for import.

This gap matters:

  • For the grid, it sets the limit on how much flexibility can be relied on.
  • For asset owners, it defines how much capacity can actually be monetised.
  • The reasons vary — operating strategy, state of charge, or equipment faults.
