ERCOT Solar and Wind July 2026: Solar revenues fall 20% year-on-year as 5 GW of new capacity comes online
Solar plants in ERCOT earned an average of $3.43/kW-month in May 2026, 20% below May 2025. Wind earned $3.99, down 7%. As a result, wind out-earned solar by 16%.
The average solar capture price dropped 24% year-on-year to $17.15/MWh, while its capacity factor held near 27%. Wind’s capture price fell 11% to $17.18/MWh.
All revenue came from energy markets for both technologies. Real-Time Energy made up over 90%, with Day-Ahead at 7% of solar revenue and 3% of wind’s.
