ERCOT is experiencing one of the fastest deployments of battery energy storage in the world. But what does that mean for revenues, optimization, and long-term opportunity?
On July 31st, we held a livestream to dig into the trends surrounding battery energy storage in ERCOT. You can watch the recording above and follow along by downloading the slides here.
For subscribers to Modo Energy’s Research in the US, we’ve summarized the five biggest takeaways below.
1. Battery buildout is continuing at pace - even as time in the queue becomes extended
Installed capacity has grown from just under 8 GW to 10 GW in the first half of 2025.
Much of this development has occurred in the Houston Load Zone, the area of ERCOT which historically has seen the slowest deployment of batteries. This reflects the continued buildout of battery energy storage in locations that allow projects to follow the installation of solar generation across the state.
