The forward market for electricity explained

Wholesale electricity markets are a power trader’s playground, where electricity is bought and sold ahead of delivery. For battery energy storage, this is usually done via close-to-real-time ‘spot’ markets, e.g., the day-ahead and intraday markets. However, this isn’t the only option - electricity can be traded weeks, months, and even years ahead of delivery. In this article, this is what we’ll be focussing on; the forward market.
