The Battery Buildout Report GB: Q4 2025 closes out a record-breaking year

Battery buildout in Great Britain continued at pace in Q4 2025, with 437 MW of new rated power coming online. While not a record quarter, Q4's additions were enough to make 2025 the biggest year ever for battery buildout.

In comparison, the average quarterly growth over the past two years was 386 MW, meaning Q4 2025 was above average.

What was the total battery capacity added in Q4 2025?

The new capacity took the total rated power of batteries in Great Britain to 6.8 GW.

The total energy capacity from commercially operational batteries increased by 1.0 GWh in Q4 2025. This took the total energy capacity to 11 GWh.

With a total energy capacity of 11 GWh and a total rated power of 6.8 GW, the average duration of battery energy storage systems in Great Britain is now 1.62 hours, up from 1.57 hours at the end of Q3 2025.

A data download of the battery energy storage project pipeline out to 2028 is available at the end of the article.
